Vessel Master (200 Ton Captain) Full-time Seasonal

The Captain serves as vessel master responsible for the safe navigation and operation of 86ft Research Vessel. It is his/her duty to manage the vessel in such a manner as to ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients and crew, and to conduct ships affairs in accordance with established policies and direction from the Company. The company relies on the Captain to set a high standard of personal and professional conduct, and to maintain shipboard morale and respect for the companys purpose and mission.

Primary responsibilities
Become fully familiar with the handling characteristics of the vessel (maneuvering, docking, anchoring, etc.) as well as the operation of critical systems (electronic, navigation aids, steering, de-watering, safety apparatus, etc.)
Maintain required logbooks according to established practice and in established formats.
Update and display all necessary licenses as required the United States Coast Guard and other state and federal regulatory agencies.
Oversee all crew members and ensure that each understands and performs his/her assigned duties adequately. Provide training and orientation to new crew members, or may assign this task to an appropriately experienced crew member.
Conduct emergency drills.
Track all purchases, keep accurate accounts and maintain expenses within budget amounts. Captain must turn in expense records/receipts to accounting for expenses in an organized and timely manner.
Review pre-season and post-season inventory reports to ensure completeness and accuracy.

USCG license with a minimum rating of Master 200-ton
5 years Alaska experience
Current MMC
Current CPR/First Aid Certification
TWIC card
Must pass pre-employment drug screen, reference checks and background check.
Must have sufficiently acute hearing, eyesight and depth perception to meet the demands of at-sea service. Must be capable of using escape hatches and boarding /disembarking survival craft unassisted.
Season of operation generally April-September.
Ability to live in close quarters and maintain healthy attitude
